The
firm Croswell Engineers arises from the firm Croswell, Anstey
& Partners formed in 1977. The Practice as is now constituted
concentrates on civil and electrical engineering particularly
in the field of land development. The Practice has undertaken
major township development throughout Southern Africa and
has pioneered many of the concepts which have now become commonplace,
particularly in residential areas. The Practice has successfully
completed over 1200 commissions from a wide range of clients
including local and provincial governments, National Government
departments and a wide range of a private sector of clients.
Areas
of Particular Expertise
The
Practice has made a specialisation in the fields of township
development particularly for housing. To achieve optimisation
in the necessary design areas, the Practice makes use of very
sophisticated design software (Autodesk Land Development Desktop
and Civil Design) and can operate directly from ground models
obtained from either aerial photography or accepted ground
survey methods. Projects have been carried out in both the
northern and southern hemispheres with a full cognisance being
taken of the relevant land surveying standards.
In addition, the Practice has made a point of developing skills
in the area of small contractor development and training and
in labour-intensive construction methods. Many of the techniques,
which are now being applied in these latter fields, were pioneered
by this Practice and, in particular, this Practice has carried
out one of the largest labour-intensive construction projects
even undertaken in South Africa (approximately 200km of secondary
water mains in Soweto).
The
Practice works out of its Johannesburg office throughout Southern
Africa and has completed designs in Botswana, Egypt, Ghana,
Ivory Coast, Mozambique, and in the UK. We are presently involved
in projects in Benin, DRC, Kuwait and Seychelles.
The
Practice is a member of the South African Association of Consulting
Engineers and carries adequate Professional Indemnity Insurance
through the scheme authorised by the SAACE.
Since
we firmly believe that the expertise, which the consulting
practice has to offer resides in its personnel, we attach
a brief CV of each of the Partners.
We
have within our office a semi-autonomous CADD engineering
design bureau which implements our designs and produces drawings.
The bureau is networked into the Practice's workstations.
