Viking
Bay Resort
THE
VIKING BAY RESORT COMPLEX is uniquely situated on the shores
of the Vaal Dam, which has been long recognized for its tourism
potential. This large inland lake in excess of 380 square
kilometres, within 45 minutes driving time from downtown Johannesburg,
has the very real potential of attracting both local and international
tourists to the extensive attractions which the developers
envisage.
THE
VIKING BAY RESORT COMPLEX as a result of its size, over
3000 hectares, and its proximity to the most densely populated
area in South Africa, some 10 million residents, will form
a viable, sustainable and lucrative asset for both the developers
and investors.
Tourism
is one of the fastest growing industries in South Africa and
the country is fast becoming a sought after tourist destination.
It is recorded that International tourist arrivals showed
a 15,7 % increase for the May-to-June 2002 period making it
the best performing tourist destination in the world.
The
tourist industry is muted to be the single most effective
growth area in South Africa, and the growth of tourism is
likely to outstrip our mineral industry within the next decade.
To be truly effective in The Greater Johannesburg Area,
tourism will be reliant on the exploitation of the provinces
limited natural and scenic locations, such as that offered
by THE VIKING BAY RESORT COMPLEX.
The
Vaal Dam has the largest inland water surface area in South
Africa. The dam has numerous coves and bays which would take
literally weeks to explore, providing excellent boating and
yachting appeal for both local and international tourists.
The
Greater Johannesburg Area as a whole will without
doubt benefit significantly from the consequent revenues generated,
the growth service sectors and the significant job opportunities
facilitated by the tourism generated by THE VIKING BAY RESORT
COMPLEX.
